‘Shalom, Shalom’ … Even In The Storm 🌩️
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.”
In Hebrew, “shalom” means peace. But on a wider scale, it means wholeness, completeness, and the kind of stillness that isn’t dependent on what’s going on around you. Saying it twice — shalom, shalom — is a biblical way of expressing perfect peace. The kind of peace that holds you together when everything else feels like it’s falling apart.
And yes, I’ve been watching The Chosen again lol.
We’ve all been Simon (Peter) before. Lost, angry, wondering why those around us are thriving in God’s blessings while our own lives are filled with strife and non-stop challenges. When the disciples were out in the boat in that storm and they saw Jesus walking on water, Peter said to Him “Lord, if it is You, bid me to come to You on the water.”, and He did. Peter stepped out of the boat filled with faith in the Lord. But, Jesus knew Peter’s heart. He knew Peter was fearful and had doubts. When Peter started to sink, Jesus reached out His hand and caught him. He then said to Peter (paraphrasing) “Why do you think I allow you to go through trials? They strengthen you and prove the genuineness of your faith in Me. Just keep your eyes on Me.”
And that’s such a beautiful and awaking reminder … “Keep your eyes on Me, Jurnee. This trial is meant to glorify Me. This trial is meant to prove that you really do have faith in Me. Keep your eyes on Me and I will give you perfect peace even in this storm.”
Perfect Peace.
Why do we keep doubting that God is going make a way and turn it all around for us? If we can have faith in Him when things are good, why does that same faith in Him shake when things get challenging for us?
God is the same God in ANY situation.
Life has storms. Unexpected phone calls. Unanswered prayers. Emotions that feel heavy. Circumstances that don’t make sense. But I’ve learned that peace is not found in the calm — it’s found in Christ. He is peace. And even when the wind is raging, He speaks stillness over my soul.
So today, I’m choosing to trust. I’m choosing to breathe. I’m choosing to whisper shalom, shalom over my mind, my heart, and my home.
Even in this storm… I will rest in His peace.
🎧 Worship Recommendation: If you need a song to help you anchor your heart in His peace today, listen to “Be Constant (Live at Maverick City).” Let it be your reminder that God never changes — even in the storm!
✨ A Prayer for Peace
Lord, help me to keep my mind on You. When the waves rise and fear creeps in, remind me that You are my peace. Anchor my soul in Your presence. Shalom, shalom - let it be so in me.
Amen.
