God is the Fulfillment

Not what He can give.
Not what He can show.
Not even what He can say.
So often, we get caught up in seeking God’s hand instead of His heart. We forget that while He is our good provider, He Himself is the very fulfillment of every need we have.
A few weeks ago I reached out to a Pastor at church. I was looking for guidance and help about the song Jireh and reading Genesis 22 (see slideshow below). He shared this with me:
“The song Jireh and your reading in Genesis 22 are a beautiful example of how God can use different moments to remind us of His truth. The name “The Lord Will Provide” isn’t just about God meeting our needs today… but it also points us to his meeting of our greatest need which is Jesus, the one he provided to save us.”
Think about it. How many of your prayers lately have been requests for more, for better, for wisdom, for guidance? There’s nothing wrong with asking God for these things; He welcomes us to bring our requests before Him. But sometimes, in all of the asking, we forget to simply seek Him.
╰› When’s the last time you prayed just to know Him more?
╰› When’s the last time you asked Him to show you His heart?
╰› When’s the last time you sat still, not for what He has done, but for who He is?
I’m not exempt from this reminder either. My prayers often slip into asking. But today, I’m pausing to seek Him. Not just His provision, but His presence.
✦ Scripture to Meditate On
“Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.” — Psalm 73:25
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.” — Matthew 6:33
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
✦ Reflection Questions
When was the last time I sat in prayer without asking God for anything?
Do I see God as the fulfillment of my needs or mainly as the giver of things I need?
What would change in my spiritual life if my main desire was simply more of Him?
✦ Prayer
Father, forgive me for the times I lost sight of my real need — You. Help me to see that even though You are our good provider, You are also the fulfillment of our every need. It’s not about what You can give us, it’s about giving us You. Draw me into deeper intimacy with You, and help me rest in the truth that You alone are the fulfillment of my soul. Amen.
