I’m Not a Mature Christian… And That’s Okay.

I am not a “mature Christian.”

But wait! 🫸🏼

Hear me out.

.

.

.

I don’t know a ton of scripture off the top of my head.

I don’t remember all of the commandments.

I don’t fully understand what it means to have or live with a heart of repentance.

I probably wouldn’t pass one of the Tik-Tok Bible quizzes lol.

And for a long time, I thought those things disqualified me. I thought I wasn’t “Christian enough” because I didn’t grow up in church the way some people did. I thought I was behind. I thought I was missing something everyone else had already mastered.

But here’s my truth ⤵️

I’m a new Christian. And I’m learning.

I gave my life to Christ this past January, and I was baptized in April. I’m still figuring out what all of this means for me and my life. Yes, I’ve got a good grasp of it but, here are some things I’m still learning:

  • what it looks like to actually follow Jesus in my everyday life

  • how to hand God the pen instead of trying to write the story myself

  • how to pause before I move

  • how to trust the Lord fully

And it’s not been easy.

But does being in the early stages of my walk mean I love God any less?

Does it mean I’m not committed?

Does it mean I’m not genuine in my pursuit of Him?

❕❕Absolutely not ❕❕

Growth takes time. Real time. Not social media’s idea of time.

Roots don’t anchor overnight and faith doesn’t mature in a single season.

I’m not a mature Christian… but I’m a hungry one.

  1. I’m hungry to know God more.

  2. Hungry to read and understand His Word.

  3. Hungry to see myself the way He sees me.

  4. Hungry to grow, even if it’s slow, even if it’s messy, even if it’s imperfect.

And hunger like that?

God honors it every single time. 👏🏼

Because maturity isn’t the starting point - it’s the result of daily seeking. It’s what happens when you show up again and again, day after day. It’s what happens when you keep choosing Jesus even on the days you feel like you’re stumbling through the dark.

And guess what? Your walk doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.

God doesn’t compare you.
He doesn’t rank you.
He doesn’t shake His head at your questions or your gaps in knowledge.

He delights in your progress.
He celebrates your growth.
He sings over your surrender.

And He meets you exactly where you are—no shame attached.

🙏 Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for loving me right where I am. Thank You for seeing my heart even when my understanding feels small. Teach me, guide me, and grow me into the believer You’re calling me to be. Help me move with humility, hunger, and obedience. Strengthen my desire to learn Your Word, deepen my trust in You, and remind me that maturity is a journey I don’t walk alone. Continue the work You’ve started in me, and let my life reflect Your grace, Your patience, and Your love.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
