In All Things, Give Thanks
Greens. Beans. Potatoes. Tomatoes. Chicken. Turkey. You name it!
Okay. Now that we’ve got the dinner menu covered, let’s talk about the real Thanksgiving. The one that involves God.
Every year, we gather around the neatly set dining table, or pile up on the couch in front of the TV. Our plates are filled with food and the house is loud with laughter and family. In these moments, we’re reminded of what family is and how much we missed that cousin or uncle we haven’t seen since last Thanksgiving.
But sometimes, without meaning to, we let the holiday pass by without truly pausing to give thanks to the One who made it all possible. We often forget to express our gratitude and praise God for His Hand in our lives.
If I’m being honest, it can be so easy to get caught up in the chaos of the holiday — cleaning the house (even those baseboards), running to the store for a forgotten ingredient, making sure the kids are behaving. Thanksgiving comes around every year, and sometimes we show up to it stressed, tired, or just trying to make everything “perfect.”
Thanksgiving is more than a day. It’s a posture.
It’s a heart turned toward God. It’s the recognition in every blessing, every lesson, every opportunity, and even the losses. Everything is a part of God’s intentional work in our lives. God never asked us for a perfect table. He asked for a thankful heart.
You ever have a moment where you look back over your year and think “Wow… I didn’t think I’d make it through that”? But here you are.
That’s Thanksgiving.
You ever look at a situation that should’ve broken you, but somehow you’re standing stronger and little more grounded in God?
That’s Thanksgiving.
Or maybe you’re in a season of “waiting” and not knowing what’s going to happen next but still you choose to trust God and worship Him anyway.
That’s Thanksgiving.
The Bible says,
“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” — Psalm 107:1
Maybe this year wasn’t easy. Maybe there were losses, changes, disappointments, or moments you kept to yourself. But even in that, God was faithful.
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Not for all circumstances… in them.
While we’re passing plates around the table, take a second to remember:
The forgotten prayers God answered
The doors He closed for your protection
The moments of peace that came out of nowhere
The strength He gave you on days you felt empty
The way He kept you, healed you, carried you
You may not have said it out loud, but God was there for every one of those moments.
“Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise.” — Psalm 100:4
Thanksgiving isn’t just something we do.
It’s how we enter His presence.
Happy Thanksgiving friends. I hope you enjoy your meals, your company, and God’s presence around the table today ♡
Prayer
Father, thank You for bringing me to another Thanksgiving. Thank You for Your goodness, Your protection, and the blessings I saw—along with the ones I didn’t. Teach me to notice You more. Help my heart stay grateful, even when life feels uncertain or heavy. Fill my home with Your peace and my spirit with Your joy. Let my gratitude be genuine and reflect how good You’ve been to me.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
