God is Not Luck

Hear me out.

God is not a genie.

God is not a magic eight ball.

God is not a fortune cookie.

God is not a penny you found on “heads.”

God is not tarot cards.

God is not that “lucky” token you keep with you.

God is not that keyword you privately set for “yes” or “no.”

Too often, we reduce God to our own small-minded version of luck. We want Him to align with our plans, bless our dreams, and confirm our desires — and when He doesn’t, we question His goodness or fall into spiritual lukewarmness.

But God isn’t our good luck charm. He’s the Creator of the universe, the Alpha and the Omega, the Author of every story, including yours. He isn’t here to serve us; we were created to serve Him.

We were born to worship Him.

When we treat God like a symbol or a sign instead of the Sovereign King that He is, we lose sight of His holiness. We forget how big He is compared to us. How His wisdom stretches beyond our imagination, and how our ways will always pale in comparison to His.

And maybe, just maybe, that’s why He sometimes withholds what we want — to remind us of who He is and where our fulfillments should be. Not a genie. Not a wish-granter. But a good, faithful, and holy God who knows what’s best for us even when we don’t.

For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.
— Isaiah 55:8-9

Reflection

Take a moment today to ask yourself:

  • Have I been seeking God for who He is, or for what I want?

  • Am I trusting His timing, or trying to make Him fit mine?

  • Do I worship Him out of love, or out of expectation?

When you shift your focus from what God can give to who God is, you’ll start to see His hand in everything — not as luck, but as love.

Prayer

Lord, forgive me for the times I’ve treated You like a symbol of luck instead of the Sovereign God You are.
Remind me that I was created to serve You, not the other way around.
Help me to trust Your ways even when I don’t understand them, and to worship You simply because You are worthy.
In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

God is not in the guessing — He’s in the guiding. Don’t look for signs of luck. Look for His presence.
